Time for another monthly toast! We're excited to welcome local beekeeper Jillian Hirsch as our guest speaker at BattleField Farm.
We'll be outdoors at a working farm, so a few special requests for this month:
Bring your own drinks, chairs, and anything you need to be comfortable.
If you have an extra lawn chair, please bring to share with a new friend!
Carpool if possible - onsite parking is very limited.
We'll post additional info about parking on the Facebook event before the event, and you can use the event discussion to arrange carpools!
Do not attend if you are (or might be) sensitive to bee stings.
There will be live bees nearby and we can't guarantee your safety.
Our Speaker Jillian Hirsch is an artist, educator, and beekeeper. She started working with honeybees during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Informed by the research of Drs. Tom Seeley and Leo Sharashkin, her approach to beekeeping embraces a more natural bee-centric practice that is treatment free and minimally invasive.
For this talk, Jillian will give an overview of amateur backyard beekeeping and treatment-free approaches. There will also be a "meet and greet" with the bees and sampling of honey fresh from the hive.
BattleField Farm is an urban farm and collective of community gardens fighting food insecurity in East Knoxville. Lead by the incomparable Chris Battle, BattleField Farm is a little gem creating a community of food and fellowship.
