Knox County Stormwater Ordinance

The Knox County Stormwater Ordinance has been a tremendous undertaking for Knox County and for your Builders Council. The Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville supports a stronger Stormwater Ordinance. The ordinance that has been presented by Knox County has some issues that should be addressed.

The Knox County Commission voted on the stormwater ordinance with some very important modifications. At the Knox County Commission's first reading, the commissioners voted to allow for pipe flexibility. The commissioners that supported the pipe flexibility did so because they recognize that the material conveying stormwater does not affect the quality of stormwater and that mandating one industry to supply the pipe materials can only increase the cost of housing to new homebuyers.

Unfortunately, with the change in the County Commission and the lawsuit threatened by the City of Knoxville, homebuyers may well lose the battle.

Town of Farragut Impact Fees

“We have been told with a straight face that this is not a tax.  Anything that takes $3500 out of a citizens pocket and puts it into the hands of government, ladies and gentlemen that is a tax”  Bob Markli, Markli Home Builders at the Town of Farragut Board of Alderman meeting regarding the implementation of an impact fee on new homes, churches, and businesses.

The Town of Farragut voted NO on implementing Impact Fees. A tremendous amount of thanks goes out to all the members that came out to voice their opposition and to the aldermen that voted NO.
